Pharaohs/Government Officials
Pharaohs and Government officials lived the same luxurious and easy lifestyle. For example Pharaohs and Government officials had great wealth, which means they lived in fine homes. These two classes had plenty of time to socialize also. For most of the day Pharaohs and Government Officials held banquets. At these banquets they tried to impress their guests by having the best food. Cooks roasted ducks, geese, quail, pigeons, wild sheep, antelope, and goats. They piled the dishes with figs, grapes, dates, and coconut. To complete the meal they had bread, cakes, honey, and lots of beer and wine. At the banquets guest would dress in fine linen cloth. Both men and women wore perfume. Women also wore makeup like lipstick, eyeliner, and painted their nails. They also wore robes of beads. At the beginning of banquets guests would offer the hosts(Pharaohs/Government Officials) long blessings. They wished the host long life, many riches, great happiness, and good health. The Pharaoh or Government Official would respond with “Welcome, welcome” or “Bread and beer” signaling that they should eat. Then the feast began with woman and men sitting on opposite sides. Important guests sat on chairs with high backs, and everyone else sat on stools and cushions. Servants waited on the guests all around. While guests ate musicians, acrobats, and dancers entertained them. Music was played by flutes, harps, rattles, and lutes. The daily life of Pharaohs and Government Officials consisted of parties and relaxing.
The Pharaohs
Pharaoh Khufu: Pharaoh Khufu ruled in the Old Kingdom Between 2551 B.C.E to 2528 B.C.E. Pharaoh Khufu established the pharaoh as a central government, and kept strict control over food supplies. He declared himself a god so he could be emphasized. Khufu built outstanding pyramids that are still recognized today.Today no one know how they built the pyramids. But we do know that it took over 20 years and over 100 workers.
Pharaoh Senusret I: Pharaoh Senusret I ruled the Middle Kingdom from 1971 B.C.E to 1926 B.C.E. Senusret I was a strong leader and unified Egypt. During his time of rule art, literature, and architecture flourished. Senusret controlled mines filled with gold, gems, and copper. He built a great monument called the White Chapel. Senusret hoped his memory would live on in the chapel, but later a pharaoh took it apart to make a monument for himself.
Pharaoh Ramses II: Pharaoh Ramses II ruled the New Kingdom from 1290 B.C.E to 1224 B.C.E. He is the most well known pharaoh which is why he is called Ramses The Great. Ramses ruled for more than 60 years which is longer than any other Pharaoh. Ramses is known for being a powerful military leader, and building numerous monuments. He also had over 100 wives an kids.
