Canaan & Judaism
The Hebrew Bible teaches us about events in the lives of some of the early Jewish leaders.
Four key leaders were Abraham, Moses, David, And Solomon.
To learn a bit about each of them we will start off with Abraham, Abraham Is known as the “father of the hebrews”. According to the Torah, it was Abraham who introduced this belief to the Hebrews. As well as the Torah states, God told Abraham to move his family all the way from Mesopotamia to Canaan. Imagine how scary that must have been! God promised Abraham that He would make him the father of a great nation and he would bless the nation! Abraham did as he was told and moved his family all that way, and his descendants became known as the Jewish people. To learn a little about Moses, he was the greatest leader of hebrew. The Torah states how he led his people out of slavery in Egypt. Moses told the Hebrews that God would lead them to Canaan, the “promised land,” in exchange for faithful obedience. Moses also gave Judaism its fundamental laws. The Torah tells how God gave Moses 10 important laws engraved on two stone tablets. These laws ended up becoming the foundation of Judaism. Now, to learn about King David and Solomon. Most of their life was spent together of around similar environments because Solomon was King David's son. To start off, as we know after the hebrews were in Egypt for awhile. After they escaped they were wondering in the wildness, but then they had gone once more to Canaan It was in Canaan they had created a united kingdom under King David and Solomon. King David established Jerusalem as a holy city. King Solomon built Jerusalem’s first great temple. The city of Jerusalem and its temple became very powerful symbols to the Hebrews of their faith in God.
